Whether you already own and manage your own day spa, manage a resort spa facility, or are interested in becoming a part of this growing industry, this 150-hour training will give you the skills needed to be in the forefront of this expanding and exciting field. The intent of the Spa Director Staff at ASIS is to provide the space and education necessary for our students to become conscientious and knowledgeable spa directors. ASIS believes that it is valuable for a spa director to have a kinesthetic understanding of the treatments offered, a concept of marketing trends, and compassion for humanity. In this education, we explore design, marketing, staff development, movement, and communication skills in an awareness-oriented setting. This training takes place within two one-week sessions. Topics will include Marketing, Spa Amenities and Philosophies, Massage Therapy and Hydrotherapy Treatments, Spa Design, Spa Management, Human Resource Development, Communication and Leadership Skills, and Community Building.

The SPA Director Certification Program is designed to prepare you to meet the needs of the whole person: body, mind & spirit. ASIS believes that it is important for all spa employees, managers and owner to have a kinesthetic understanding if the treatments offered as well as knowledge in market trends, human resource management and basic business practices. A blend of experiential, kinesthetic, audio and visual tools are employed to encourage insight into each individuals management style, provide a deeper understanding of how they operate in a work setting and to facilitate the development of their skills as a manager/director.
In a safe, supportive, yet evocative setting, we wish to prepare students to meet the challenges they may face as contributing members of the spa community. As the owner of potential owner of a day spa, the manager of a resort spa facility, or a therapist looking to advance in the spa industry, this program will enhance your spa understanding.

Toni Nurnberg brings a wide variety of work experiences to the Spa Management Course, beginning in 1975 when she studied massage, specializing in deep tissue, trigger point and sports massage. She went on to work as a therapist at two of the top spas in the country: Canyon Ranch – Tucson, AZ. and The Peaks at Telluride – Telluride, CO. She founded two massage schools, The Desert Institute of the Healing Arts – Tucson, AZ and the Connecting Point School of Massage. Working in the spa industry introduced her to the spa treatments and Ayurveda. She moved into leadership positions which sensitized her to the opportunities and challenges inherent in the spa world. In 1998 she became the opening Spa Director at the Franz Klammer Lodge in Telluride Colorado, and then opened Mii amo Spa at Enchantment Resort – Sedona AZ, Shanah Spa at Bishop’s Lodge – Santa Fe, NM, and The Spa at Sedona Rouge – Sedona AZ.
